In the Eelam Tamil Theatre history, the Theatre College, based in the Jaffna Peninsula in the Northern Sri Lanka,   commenced its activities in 1978.  Workshop is identified as one of the aspects of these activities in addition to the theatre activities that evolved from them. Kulanthai M. Shanmugaligam was the motivating factor for the creation of this new process.  The workshop method performances were completely different from the traditional modern play production which prioritized the director and playwright. This process developed through workshop method and identified as educational theatre was practised by M. Shanmugalingam and his students in the leading schools in the Jaffna Peninsula. Having absorbed various new theatre experiences from world-wide theatre activities, it eventually become instrumental in creating new theatre trends such  feminist theatre, activism and participatory research activities for Koothu reformulation. Thus the experience sharing and remarks by the participants of the newly created theatre performances indicate the new trends in theatre performance productions. In the background of the realization of the need for researching and compiling such various experiences, remarks and information, this Research Article has been written with “How have performances   emerged in Eelam through workshop method?” as the Research Problem and   “To study how performances formulated through workshop methods in the Eelam Tamil Theatre history are practised in Batticaloa?” as the objective of the research.
