Seerapuranam was compiled by the poet Umar (1642-1703).The subject matter for the composition of this work was provided by the great religious scholar Shaik Sadaqathullah Appa. Poet Umar was at the patronage of two philanthropists namely Seethakathi and Abul Kasim Maraicayar. Umar started to compose the Seerapuranam by the request of Seethakathi. Umar has extensively praised Sadaqathullah Appa for providing the primary source material, in the introductory verses of Seerapuranam. This article intends to shed light on these historical events in an analytical way.
