Lord Shiva in Purananuru
Abstract
The full primordial god Shiva's name as Shivaperuman is not found in the Sangam literature. But there are many other names that can refer to Lord Shiva such as Mazhuval Nedion, Nankatha Muthuvan, Neelkandan etc. Among them, eight books are about Lord Shiva in Puranahundu, known as the Tamil Treasury. Also, many serials like Tripuram Eritavan, Neelnimir Sadayan, Kukumidathan, Pirainutula Bolintha Senni, Mukkan Selvan, Neelmani Midatan etc. are meant to refer to Shiva. Thus, Purana Hundred has explored in detail the fact that Lord Shiva has ruled under various names denoting his origin, even if not as Lord Shiva.
