Rituals of Minor Deities in Su. Tamilselvi Novels
Abstract
Worships arose because the human race looked closely at the workings of nature, unable to understand its fury, and acted with a sense of awe and gratitude for what it had helped. Due to the interbreeding of the people, there were changes in the worship system and minor gods and goddesses appeared. Folk deity worship is a practice carried on through tradition. In deity worship, minor deity worship may precede all forms of worship. The worship of the folk is the worship of the minor deities. In this idol worship, male deity is worshiped and female deity is worshiped. The primary deities are worshiped as well as the subsidiary deities minor deities are also worshiped as family deities for many Families. People perform various rituals to deities to alleviate their sufferings and to do good. Sacrifices, prayers, processions, offerings and festivals are performed. It clearly shows the mood of the people. There fear, love, gratitude, resistance, contentment, joy and many other thoughts and emotional states are ritually expressed.
