Abstract

There is no poet who does not sing about femininity. As Perunkathai is an epic of state civilians, it is accompanied by great women like Vasavatha, the king's daughter, Padumavati, Mananikai, Virisikai, (the four wives of Perungatha hero Udayana) along with them Prachodhana Devi, Vasavatha's friend Kanchanamalai, Padumapati's friend, Sankyathai, Udayana's mother Mrigapati, Madana Manjikai, dramatist Narumatha, Bhadrapati etc. The role of these women played a essential part in this great epic.
